No more executions in Iran! Freedom for political prisoners!
Whilst the mullah’s fascist regime in Iran continues it’s assault on the opposition with arbitrary detainments and arrests, in the wake of the “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî” (Women, life, freedom) protests following the murder of Jina Amini it has also sped up executions.
According to various human rights organisations, between 10th October 2022 and 8th October 2023 the Iranian state executed 678 people, of whom 17 were women and one a child. This statistic compared with that of the year before comes to a 24% increase in total executions. Some of these are carried out publicly with the aim of terrorising the people.
Unable to contain the spread of the “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî” protests across the country that erupted following the murder of Jina Armini on 16th September 2022 for not covering her head, the fascist mullah regime, on failing to deter the protests with detainments, arrests and torture instead resorted to execution as a solution.
According to data from Iran Human Rights (IHR), between 11th to 13th November, nine people were executed amongst whom some were also political prisoners. It has also been learnt that 21-year-old Milah Zohrevand who was arrested in October 2022, was executed on the 23rd November.
The director of IHR, Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, stated that due to the world’s attention being distracted by the war on Gaza, executions in Iran have risen dramatically and from the beginning of the war on Gaza to 13th November, 114 people have been executed.
Amongst those executed were many Balochs and Kurds. According to Amnesty International, in just this year alone 14 Kurds have been executed. Kurdish political prisoner Kasim Abeste of Mahabad, after spending 14 years in prison, was also executed on the 6th November in Karaj prison.
Assaults on prisoners such as torture, rights violations and blocking medical treatments have become routine. Such assaults have recently been made known more widely to the public after Nobel Peace Prize winner Narges Muhammedi, who is being held prisoner in Tehran prison, recently went on hunger strike demanding that she be allowed to be taken to the hospital without wearing a niqab and that prisoners be granted their full rights to healthcare.
As TSP, we stand against the fascist Iranian mullah regime in its attacks on its opponents and brutal arrests, death sentences and executions and call for an end to capital punishment.
Freedom for political prisoners!
