Today it’s our association—but who will be targeted tomorrow if this trend continues unabated?’ This is the reaction of Hartmut Brückner from the federal executive committee of Rote Hilfe to the closure of the solidarity association’s bank accounts. Within the last few days, the Sparkasse and GLS accounts of Rote Hilfe e.V., as well as the GLS accounts of the DKP (German Communist Party) and Anarchist Black Cross, were suddenly closed. We share Rote Hilfe’s assessment that these repressive measures are part of a policy that increasingly criminalizes anti-fascist organizations. Solidarity organizations that support and promote anti-fascist resistance and left-wing activism are increasingly contrasting with the rapid development towards highly armed states whose policies are becoming increasingly right-wing. Trump’s classification of ‘Antifa’ in Germany as a terrorist organization a few weeks ago has provided a basis for increasing repression against left-wing resistance. Although the German government has not adopted this classification for itself, it still has an impact on politics. Hartmut Brückner makes an important point in his statement: Who or what will be targeted tomorrow? Rote Hilfe is the most important left-wing solidarity structure in Germany, supporting political prisoners as well as activists who are experiencing repression, imprisonment, and harassment in the context of the Budapest Complex and Antifa-Ost proceedings. This support may be a thorn in the side of the repressive authorities and the state, but we will not let that stop us. We express our full solidarity with Rote Hilfe e.V. and other affected structures. We call on everyone to strengthen solidarity in these times, not to be intimidated, and to keep going, because the movement needs solidarity structures, and the movement needs the wind at its back to fight against right-wing politics and capitalism.
