The extradition of international revolutionary Ecevit Piroğlu, who has been kept prisoner for 32 months, is continuing, putting his life at risk.
Piroğlu was arrested as a result of dirty, under the
table negotiations between the fascist Turkish state
and Serbia, imprisoned for 32 months and arrested
once more in prison the day he was supposed to be
released and taken to another prison, thinly veiled as a “camp”.
08.02.2024
Despite a ruling by the Serbian Supreme Court that he was not to be extradited, Piroğlu has been held for 32 months without pause. The re-arresting of Piroğlu by Serbian police waiting in the prison and his transfer to another prison under the guise of a “camp” on the day of his supposed release on the 12th January 2024 is further evidence of the Serbian state’s suspension of the rule of law and human rights in the case of Piroğlu.
Since his arrest, Ecevit Piroğlu has been at risk of being handed over to the Turkish state. In fact, the initial reason for his arrest 32 months earlier was at the request of the Turkish state for his extradition. His extradition has so far been prevented thanks to an international campaign and Piroğlu’s own 136 day long hunger strike.
Piroğlu’s detainment continuing despite the ending of his sentence shows that dirty political dealings with the Turkish state are still ongoing.
Despite ECHR, UN and court judgements, the Serbian state is violating its own judgements by telling Piroğlu to leave the country on the one hand and keeping him in prison on the other. Based on this decision, Ecevit Piroğlu applied to leave the country on his own volition however his application has thus far gone unanswered. The Serbian state in this way continues to commit crimes against Piroğlu.
Piroğlu, in the face of the enormous injustice he has encountered since his arrest, began a 136 day long hunger strike resistance which greatly affected his mental health. However, Piroğlu’s transfer to hospital and access to treatment is being blocked with bureaucratic excuses.
Because Ecevit Piroğlu has been an internationalist revolutionary struggling against AKP and ISIS terror from Gezi to Kobane, the fascist Turkish state is requesting his extradition. If this comes to pass, his life will be in immediate danger.
If any harm befalls Ecevit Piroğlu, it is the Serbian state that will be responsible. We demand a cease to the dirty dealings between the Serbian state and the fascist Turkish state and his immediate release in accordance with international law.
Freedom for Ecevit Piroğlu!
